El-Nino Floods Impact Assessment

Jubaland State is a federal member state in southern Somalia, bordering Kenya to the southwest. It is one of the five federal member states established as part of the federalization process in Somalia. The transitional capital of Jubaland is Kismayo, which is also the largest city in the region.
In the context of the recent El Niño floods that occurred in Somalia in 2023, Jubaland State, like many other parts of Somalia, was severely affected. El Niño is a climate phenomenon characterized by the warming of sea surface temperatures in the Pacific Ocean, which can lead to extreme weather patterns around the world, including heavy rainfall and flooding in certain regions.
